Aging in Place – Where?
It is terrific when the current home is safe and comfortable for aging-in-place. However, that is not always the case. Other options include:
Modify the home they are currently in.
If the home is not feasibly modifiable, move to a home that is more conducive to aging in place.
Example: Move from multi-level home to single-level home
Example: Move to single-level condo, the condo association does all the yardwork
Example: Move to 55+ community
Parent(s) move in with adult children. Modify the adult children’s home for aging in place.
Adult child or other family member moves in with the aging loved one. Modify the home for aging in place and for the caregiving family member.
