Choosing Medical Care Providers
When I was a kid in the 1960’s I dreaded seeing the doctor ambling up to our front door with his leather doctor’s bag. Between tongue suppressers and huge syringes, 7-year old me knew that a doctor on a house call made me want to hide under my bed.
Fast forward to the 2010’s and 2020’s and I’m loving doctor and nurse house calls because I’m a caregiver for my aging parents who are in their 80’s and 90’s.
I was convinced that house calls were phased out long ago for economic and liability reasons. In 2015 we moved my parents into our home. We were very pleasantly surprised to discover a variety of reputable medical house-call companies.
In addition to medical staff, they sent technicians to our home to take blood tests, blood pressure, and even mobile x-ray machines and other equipment.
These in-home medical services meant we didn’t have to jeopardize our loved ones by leaving the home to doctor visits on rainy days, snowy and icy days, and oppressive heat days. Any outdoor excursion is fraught with risks of falling and cross infection in waiting rooms.
